Family Gathering, Letchworth State Park, July 28 - August 3, 2019

After considerable debate last Fall over where to go this year, we finally settled on a camping vacation to Letchworth State Park in New York. It turned out to be a wonderful choice, and we lucked out with mostly good weather. Kathy and I pondered our options for driving there, but finally were forced into taking the southern route around Lake Huron due to alcohol allowances heading through Canada. We were already pushing the limits with our wine selection and a bottle of Scotch, but when Craig asked me to play bartender for he and Lora's Mexican dinner night, the added makings for Margaritas pushed us well over the limits. The drive proved not to be so bad&emdash;I'm sure being a Saturday helped&emdash;and we joined Dan and Dee at a Best Western in Batavia, NY for the night.

Sunday, we headed down to the park, left our trailer in the check-in lot, and took a driving tour to get oriented. The Genesee River flows through a deep gorge through Letchworth on its way to Lake Ontario and features some beautiful waterfalls. We enjoyed some of the overlooks before heading back to set up camp. I had chosen the 700 loop based on comments I found online about the bath house being relatively new in that loop, and it worked out well. Our site (725) was nicely shaded, and the site Mom & Dad had for their motorhome was open and large, serving well as the gathering site for campfires and meals.

On Monday, we took a hike from the north end of the park back to the campground.
