Kayaking on Fontana Lake, GSMNP 2002
Kathy crossing back to our launch site
We made the most of the two sunny days we had by kayaking on Fontana Lake. The lake level had been drawn down by several feet in anticipation of winter precipitation, so the shore was often inaccessible and many islands had become peninsulas. The water was clear and warm--great for swimming during our rest stops.

The many creeks that feed into Fontana give it long fingers to explore. There are some great campsites along the shore too.
